The scholarship's namesake, Dr. George Goodheart, a chiropractor, developed
a new system of evaluation in chiropractic during the 1960s. He found that
assessment of normal and abnormal body function could be accomplished by
using muscle tests. Since the original discovery, the use of muscle testing
has been
applied to over 30 different therapeutic systems to evaluate which therapy
is appropriate for each patient. This system is called "applied kinesiology" or
AK. Dr. Goodheart has annually published his observations since 1964 and
regularly produces audio tapes with current information. He has published You'll Be Better,
The Story of Applied Kinesiology, which describes
his contribution to AK. Dr. Goodheart was the first chiropractor to be officially
appointed to the
Sports
Medicine Modalities Committee of the US Olympic Committee and served at the
1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics, as well as the first ICAK-USA Research
Director, a position he retains today.
The International College of Applied Kinesiology- (ICAK-USA), established
in 1974, is an organization of licensed-to-diagnose health care professionals
who utilize a range of therapies that focus on prevention, nutrition, and
wellness.
ICAK-USA is dedicated to furthering the knowledge of health care professionals
in AK all over the world.
