Nestled in the sands along the Gulf of Mexico, this small boat awaits the coming storm. In Mayan times, this area was called Yaxactun—The Great Route or the Great Stone Turtle. In 1871, Progreso was declared a deep port. Today, it is the official state port of the Yucatan Peninsula.
