Beat Sugar Addiction Now! gives you a practical, step-by-step approach, focusing on treating the cause of sugar addiction and understanding how it manifests. This book provides useful information, highlighting how sugar addiction is related to disease states such as chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, pain, sinusitis, IBS, autoimmune disease, cancer, and many others. Teitelbaum provides detailed treatment plans to address the underlying cause of sugar addiction, in addition to addressing the treatment of the chronic diseases that are perpetuated by sugar addiction. He provides research to support the use of nutrients and supplements specific to each condition.
This book is a timely resource, which categorizes sugar addiction into four major types, each with unique underlying pathophysiology. It is structured in a workbook format, including easy-to-use quizzes, so that you can distinguish the four different types of sugar addicts, complete with treatment protocols tailored to each. We have all seen patients whom we can identify with each of these subtypes. Type 1 addicts are chronically exhausted and hooked on quick hits of caffeine and sugar, especially energy drinks and soft drinks. Type 2 addicts often suffer from adrenal fatigue. Type 3 addicts have sugar cravings caused by overgrowth of Candida albicans and often need sugar fixes all day long. Type 4 addicts are those whose sugar addiction is related to hormonal issues like PMS, andropause, or menopause. Teitelbaum states that it is common for people to have characteristics of more than one type and suggests that the treatment protocol for both types be considered in those cases.
Dr. Teitelbaum’s Beat Sugar Addiction Now provides an eye-opening account of the sugar-addiction epidemic in our country. His book demonstrates facts about the effects of sugar and the level to which it is abused. It serves as a call to consciousness about how this phenomenon must not be overlooked in our patients with chronic pain and disease. For example, he states how one-third of the average American calorie intake comes from sugar and white flour added to processed foods. Also, the sugar contained in one can of soda suppresses immune function by 30% for over three hours.
There is no question that everyone who reads this book will find inspiration and useful clinical information that will ultimately help them to improve their health and their energy!
