Yo San

University Announces Accreditation Candidacy

Yo San University is pleased to announce that its doctoral program (DAOM; Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine) has achieved candidacy with the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM). The announcement was made subsequent to the Yo San University preparation and submission of a self -study that addressed its readiness to engage in doctoral level education in the areas of acupuncture and Oriental medicine, as well as the 14 standards upheld by ACAOM to define programs at the doctoral level.

Following submission of the self-study, a site visit was conducted and official reports were generated by the accrediting commission. The Yo San University DAOM program is a postlicensure integrative medicine program that currently includes two specialty options, reproductive medicine and healthy aging. More than 10 years in planning and nearly 2 years in operation with matriculated students, the Yo San University DAOM program operates with a one weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) a month model, with each cohort completing study in 2 years. The program includes 570 hours of didactic instruction and 650 hours of supervised clinical involvement. In order to capitalize upon the rich background that the experienced clinician candidates bring to the program, special emphasis is placed on collaborative interactive learning. Cohorts in reproductive medicine are currently active, and a cohort in healthy aging will begin study in May 2012.
