Dear Editors,

We are writing to submit our paper entitled “Detoxification Diets: Three Pilot Studies,” to Townsend Letter. Detoxification diets are becoming increasingly more popular in the media as well as in alternative medicine circles. These natural therapies are often prescribed to improve, sleep, energy, and weight management. Naturopathic physicians also recommend them for cleansing the skin, liver, and GI tract. However, very little research exists on this topic. In order to start building the evidence base regarding mechanism of detoxification, safety of detox methods, and indications or contra-indications for detoxification diets, pilot research must first be undertaken.

This manuscript examines symptoms and side effects of detox diets in three different pilot studies. Thank you for your consideration.

Respectfully,

Sarah Axtell, ND
