Reversing Ischemic Heart Damage with Multiple Chelations and EECP
It is rare that a patient is so dedicated to health that he or she can employ multiple modalities to improve heart disease. Even more unusual is serial monitoring of one’s cardiac status by a world-class medical facility.
Our 85 year-old attorney with a history of chronic hypertension had been evaluated for many years at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona. In 2010, a myocardial perfusion tomogram revealed inferior/inferolateral ischemia from near the apex to the base and extending into the inferoseptum from mid to base, approximately 12% of the left ventricular myocardium. There was no myocardial infarction. Left ventricular size was normal and left ventricular ejection fraction (poststress) was 56% to 60%. There was a new, mild hypokinesia involving the inferior wall of the left ventricle from mid to base on the posters images. Calcification score in the coronary arteries was over 4000. Summary interpretation: There was a moderate-sized area of moderately dense myocardial ischemia in the distribution of the right coronary artery. There was also a new poststress regional wall motion abnormality, due to postischemic stunning.
In 2011 an ECHO at Mayo noted a moderately severe increased concentric left ventricular wall thickness. Regional wall motion abnormalities were present with a grade 1a/4 left ventricular diastolic dysfunction with increased right ventricular wall thickness. Findings were also consistent with moderate pulmonary hypertension. Severe left atrial enlargement was noted.
Integrative Therapies
This 85 year-old patient has completed over 100 EDTA chelation infusions and over 300 EECP (enhanced extracorporeal counterpulsation) sessions. Additionally, he eats an organic, Paleo diet, exercises daily on a treadmill, and takes many supplements, including lumbrokinase. He is asymptomatic, his hypertension is well controlled, and he maintains an active law practice and even has a new girlfriend.
Reevaluation
At a May 2014 visit to Mayo, a repeat ECHO cardiogram revealed a lack of ischemia in the right coronary artery distribution and improved ventricular wall motion. The ejection fraction had also improved. According to the patient, the cardiologist at first thought that the interpretation may have been in error, but on review concurred that the improvement was substantial.
Although the patient’s heart architecture is still far from normal, it is encouraging to find this anecdotal case of reversing ischemia in a portion of the heart that had probably suffered a myocardial infarction in the distant past. Softening the heart with chelation therapy and fibrinolysis with lumbrokinase have thus been found to be marvelous strategies for improving heart health. EECP has a strong track record with much supporting data for its use in reversing and treating heart disease.1-2
